Knife Care and Safety PDF Print E-mail

It's important to take care of your knives (this applies to all elite branded knives) and below are a few hints and tips to ensure that your blades stay sharp for as long as possible and are not exposed to anything that might damage them.

  • Never leave knives in washing up water:
  1. Knives which have been exposed to water for a long period of time may develop rust spots.
  2. Leaving extremely sharp knives in water which may be camoflaged by washing up bubbles is very dangerous!!
  3. Make sure that once you have washed your knife - it is not sitting in a pool of water on the draining board as this will have the same effect as leaving it in water.   Wash, dry and immediately store.
  • Dishwasher cleaning is not recommended.
  1. The salt used in dishwashers is quite abrasive and will attack the steel and handle material over time.  For example, if you dishwasher your glasses, eventually they become misted and look tired.
  2. If you place your knife blade-down in the basket, you are blunting the knife by accident as the knife will jump about during the cycle.  If you place the knife blade-up - this is hazarous when coming to remove the knife from the dishwasher.
  3. Over time, your knife handle will loose it's original appearance and become more charcoal in colour.  Equally - the blade may have some staining.  This is easily removed with stainless steel cleaner - it's just a hassle!
  • Always store out of the reach of children.  The best way to store your goregous knives is on a magnetic knife bar or in our magnetic block.  Both are hygenic and can be placed away from small hands!  Remember - it's much easier to get at a drawer full of knives that being safely stored on a wall or in a block.
